About Me

I'm Rachel Hobson, a hand embroidery-obsessed space geek, fiber artist, quilting noob, freelance writer, craft instructor, Lego nerd (and shop girl), and mom. I love all things geektastic and funny, and making stuff makes me happy. My primary crafts are hand embroidery, quilting, and sewing nerdy skirts.

You may have seen me around the internet. I blogged for and was editor at Craft for four years, wrote for Makezine.com and MAKE magazine, and have taught hand embroidery to hundreds of people over the last several years. I also love space, and fulfilled a life dream of seeing a shuttle launch in person back in 2010. In 2011, I watched the final shuttle launch with a piece of my artwork onboard. I've been published in books and magazines and web sites, and dig in to social media like crazy, but mostly I'm looking to have fun and connect with people who appreciate the benefits of making stuff and being curious about the world around them.

I live in a suburb of Houston, just five minutes from NASA's Johnson Space Center, and love being able to get my rocket fix any time I want.

Do you have a question for me, or would you like to hire me for teaching, writing or making something? Drop me a line!
